Description
A superb combination specimen for discerning mineral collectors, this piece—documented in IMG_0713.JPG—is an excellent display-grade matrix from a classic basaltic cavity formation. The host matrix is entirely covered by a rich, botryoidal-like formation of microcrystalline druzy quartz, exhibiting a beautiful lavender-gray coloration due to trace mineral components.
Seated prominently in an intergrown habit on the druzy surface is a highly elongated, lustrous, tabular crystal of Apophyllite (likely Fluorapophyllite). The crystal shows an exceptionally well-preserved prism face with sharp, clean terminations, prominent striations along the length, and superb optical clarity. The specimen is mounted securely on a heavy, custom-fit laboratory-style bronze display stand.
